Benzothiazole-5-carboxylic acid (BZCA) is a metabolite of benzothiazole-2,4-diamine. It has been shown to inhibit the activity of cytochrome P450 enzymes and decrease the production of reactive oxygen species in rat plasma. BZCA is used as an inhibitor in pharmacokinetic studies to measure the concentration of other drugs in the bloodstream. This study has been shown to be linear with respect to drug concentration and time. The pharmacokinetic parameters are also dependent on the presence of acetonitrile and p-hydroxybenzoic acid (PHBA).
