5-Bromopyridine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester is an enantiopure compound with a chemical diversity. It is used in the benzoate synthesis and has been shown to have hemolytic activity. 5-Bromopyridine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester is also a metabolite of picolinic acid, which has been shown to be antimicrobial against various bacteria and fungi. The asymmetric synthesis of 5-bromopyridine-2-carboxylic acid methyl ester can be accomplished using a Suzuki coupling reaction. This process produces an enantiomer that exhibits nucleophilic properties. The hydrogen chloride salt of the enantiomer has mesomorphic properties and can be utilized as a component for polymers or as an antimicrobial agent.
