Description:

2,6-Bis-tert-butyl-4-methylcyclohexanol is a synthetic chemical that is used as an agrochemical. It can be produced by the hydrogenation of 2,6-bis(tert-butyl)-4-methylcyclohexene. This reaction requires a catalyst such as magnesium or nickel and hydrochloric acid to reduce the alkali metal chloride in the xylene to form 2,6-bis(tert-butyl)-4-methylcyclohexanol. The compound has been shown to have good selectivity for chlorides and other halides. It can also be synthesized from 2,6-dichlorocyclohexane with sodium methoxide in methanol solvent at low temperatures.
