2-Chloroacetamide is a hexamethylenetetramine derivative that has been shown to be neuroprotective in animal models of Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. 2-Chloroacetamide is an amide that binds to the active site of acetylcholinesterase (AChE) with a binding constant of 3.2 × 10 M, which is irreversible inhibition. It also binds to the x-ray crystal structures of sodium taurocholate and oxadiazole. 2-Chloroacetamide has been shown to bind to piperazine and intramolecular hydrogen bonds, which may contribute to its pharmacological properties.
