The chemical bond cleavage of 1,2-bis(trimethylsilyl)benzene takes place with the help of an acid catalyst to produce two molecules of trifluoroacetic acid. This chemical is also used as an antibacterial agent against bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotics such as penicillin, erythromycin, and tetracycline. 1,2-Bis(trimethylsilyl)benzene has shown activity against bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
