N-tert-Butyl-5-methylisoxazolium Perchlorate (BPMP) is a quaternary ammonium compound that has been shown to activate the polymer matrix of drugs. This activation leads to increased drug release and enhanced drug activity. BPMP activates the polymer matrix by reacting with 2 or more hydroxyl groups on the polymer surface and thus forms a primary amine. The activated polymer can then react with an active amine on the drug molecule, which leads to an increase in drug release rate and improved therapeutic efficacy. BPMP is also used as a salt form for some drugs that are unstable in water, such as dibenamine (DBN).
