tert-Butyl 2,4,5-trichlorophenyl carbonate (TBTC) is an organic compound that is used as a strong base. It can be prepared by the reaction of benzyl chloride with trichlorophenol in the presence of aminosulfuric acid. TBTC is used in peptide synthesis to prepare active esters and can also be used as a reagent in the preparation of diaminopropionic acid. TBTC has been shown to interact with chloroformates and ornithine, which leads to the formation of tert-butyl carbamate, an intermediate in peptide synthesis.
