Description:

Benzyltrimethylammonium tribromide (BTA) is a brominating reagent. It is used in organic synthesis to convert primary alcohols and phenols into bromides. BTA inhibits the production of hydrogen peroxide, which is necessary for the synthesis of reactive oxygen species. This leads to an inhibitory effect on degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. BTA also has an inhibitory effect on the production of reactive oxygen species by inhibiting amine oxidase and amine oxidase reductase. BTA may be useful in the treatment of metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance, which is associated with diabetes mellitus type 2, obesity, and hypertension.
