Description:

1,2-Bis(3-indenyl)ethane (BIEE) is a hexane that has been synthesized by an asymmetric synthesis. It can be made by the reaction of molybdenum with ethylene, which has been prepared in a preparative scale reaction vessel. BIEE is kinetically stable and thermodynamically stable at room temperature. BIEE was isolated in an isolated yield of 78%. The compound is capable of isomerizing to form two different isomers, 1,2-bis(3-indenyl)ethene and 1,4-bis(3-indenyl)ethene. Crystallography revealed that the geometry around the metal atom does not change during the reaction process.
