1,3-Bis(4-trifluoromethyl)phenyl]urea is a mitochondrial uncoupler that can be used to study the effect of uncouplers on mitochondria. It has been shown to inhibit bilayer and mitochondrial membrane fluidity and disrupt electron transfer in mitochondria. 1,3-Bis(4-trifluoromethyl)phenyl]urea is also capable of altering the conformational state of dehydrogenase enzymes in mitochondrial membranes.
