4-tert-Butyl-1-(ethoxycarbonylmethoxy)thiacalix[4]arene is a new voltammetric sensor for the detection of Hg(II) ions. This compound has an optimum sensitivity for mercury, which is linear over the range of 0.01 to 1.0 μM and shows a high selectivity for mercury over other toxic metals such as lead, copper, and silver. The compound has been applied successfully in the development of a novel sensitive voltammetric method with high selectivity for mercury ions.
