2-Bromo-5-methylthiophene is a non-aromatic heterocyclic compound with two bromine atoms and five methyl groups. It belongs to the class of electron donors and has the ability to donate electrons. This compound is a substrate for canagliflozin, an antidiabetic drug that inhibits the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4). 2-Bromo-5-methylthiophene is also used in cross coupling reactions, which are chemical reactions where two different functional groups are connected together by using an acceptor molecule. 2-Bromo-5-methylthiophene has been shown to have fluorescent properties, as well as carbonyl group and vinyl groups. The dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate group can be detected by UV irradiation, while the bromine atoms produce a characteristic photoelectron spectrum at high resolution.
