9-Benzylcarbazole-3-carboxaldehyde (BCA) is a selective inhibitor of platelet activation, which is used in the detection of antiplatelet agents. BCA can be used to detect the presence of intramolecular nucleophilic groups that are present on the surface of biomaterials such as plastics or food samples. This compound is also used for detecting and quantifying drugs in biological matrices. BCA has been shown to be selective for platelets because it binds to the platelet membrane phospholipid bilayer and inhibits platelet aggregation induced by collagen and arachidonate.
