9,9-Bis(4-bromophenyl)fluorene is a phosphorescent compound that has been studied for use as a skeleton in organic light-emitting diodes and other devices. It is also used to produce triarylamines. 9,9-Bis(4-bromophenyl)fluorene can be prepared by the reaction of diphenylamine with bromobenzene in the presence of aluminum chloride. The reaction proceeds via an electrophilic aromatic substitution mechanism. 9,9-Bis(4-bromophenyl)fluorene can be used as a skeleton in organic light-emitting diodes and other devices because it has a high triplet state quantum yield at room temperature and is relatively stable against triplet quenching by oxygen.
