Bis(4-methacryloylthiophenyl) sulfide is a monomer that can be used in the synthesis of polymers. It is copolymerized with other monomers to create materials with a high refractive index and low thermal expansion coefficient. Bis(4-methacryloylthiophenyl) sulfide has been shown to undergo dehydrohalogenation, which will produce sulfide and thiocarboxylate groups. These groups contribute to the optical properties of the polymer. Bis(4-methacryloylthiophenyl) sulfide also reacts with acrylic acid to form an ester, which increases its solubility in chloroform and decreases its refractive index.
