Bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl) sulfone is a diaminodiphenyl that has been shown to be active against Cryptococcus neoformans, an opportunistic fungus. It is a colorless solid with a molecular weight of 342.2 and optical properties that are typical for diaminodiphenyls. Bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl) sulfone can be synthesized by the reaction of vinyl alcohol, hydrogen sulfide, and trifluoromethanesulfonic acid in an organic solvent like dichloromethane. The trifluoromethanesulfonic acid provides the sulfur atom for the bis(3-amino-4-hydroxyphenyl) sulfone ring system.
