Bis(4-chloroformyloxyphenyl)propane is a divalent synthetic polymer that can be used as an optical material. It is soluble in chlorinated solvents and has a melting point of about 130°C. Bis(4-chloroformyloxyphenyl)propane can be used to make polycarbonates, polystyrene, and copolymers with other monomers such as lactams and cycloaliphatic compounds. The optical properties depend on the transition wavelength, which ranges from about 300 nm to 900 nm. It has been shown that bis(4-chloroformyloxyphenyl)propane can be processed at temperatures between 100°C and 190°C.
