Benzylhydrazine dihydrochloride (BHDS) is a nitrogen-containing compound that inhibits the activity of a number of enzymes, including those that synthesize dinucleotide phosphate. It has been shown to inhibit receptor activity in human liver preparations and to be an irreversible inhibitor of the enzyme diazonium salt. BHDS has also been shown to react with hydrochloric acid and form benzyl hydrochloride and hydrogen chloride. The structural analysis of BHDS reveals a basic protein with two hydrogen bonds that may be stabilized by the presence of a hydroxyl group on one nitrogen atom.
