Description:

3-Bromo-5-fluorobenzaldehyde is an intermediate in the synthesis of a variety of pharmaceuticals. It is used to manufacture drugs that have affinity for muscarinic receptors. In addition, 3-bromo-5-fluorobenzaldehyde can be used to synthesize drugs with affinity for nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, which are found in the autonomic nervous system.
3-Bromo-5-fluorobenzaldehyde is inexpensively made by chlorinating benzaldehyde and then reacting it with hydrogen fluoride. The synthesis has been optimized for high yield and purity by developing a method that produces impurities that are easily removed from the product. This process also provides an easy way to quantitatively measure drug substances and their binding affinities.
