Product Information
- Benzaldehyde, 3-Bromo-4-Methyl-
3-bromo-4-methylbenzaldehyde is a brominated compound that can be used as a raw material in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. The 13C NMR spectroscopy technique shows that this compound reacts with oxygen and water to produce 3,5-dibromobenzaldehyde and 4,5-dibromobenzaloxide. This reaction is catalytic and selective for methyl groups. The structural details of 3-bromo-4-methylbenzaldehyde were determined by coplanar geometry calculations. The catalyst system consists of palladium on carbon and deuterium oxide. This technique has been used to study the catalytic system for benzene oxidation.
