Description:
4-Bromo-2-hydroxybenzonitrile is a fluorescent sensor that can be used to detect metal ions. It absorbs light at wavelengths shorter than 400 nm, and emits light at longer wavelengths when it binds to transition metals. 4-Bromo-2-hydroxybenzonitrile is not detectable by the human eye, but can be detected by a UV light or with a fluorescence detector. This compound has been used in the determination of uranyl ion concentrations in rivers and in the detection of lanthanides.
