2-Bromo-4-chloroaniline is a peroxide that can be used to synthesize other chemicals. It is an efficient method for synthesizing 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid in high concentrations and has been shown to have antiproliferative effects on cancer cells. The reaction rate of 2-bromo-4-chloroaniline with oxygen is much higher than with hydrogen peroxide and it has been shown to inhibit sirtuin activity. The synthesis of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid from 2-bromo-4-chloroaniline proceeds by reaction with sulfuric acid and sodium hydroxide followed by hydrogenation of the intermediate dihydrobenzene sulfonic acid. This process also generates hydrogen peroxide as a byproduct, which can be used for other purposes.
