Description

2-Bromo-5-fluorotoluene is a solvent that is used in the synthesis of biphenyl derivatives. It is also used as a reagent in organic synthesis and has been shown to be a useful catalyst for the conversion of 4-fluorophenylboronic acid to 5-fluoroanthranilic acid. The biphenyl derivatives that are synthesized using 2-bromo-5-fluorotoluene have been found to be symmetrical, meaning that they are not restricted to one orientation in space. This property is due to the presence of two bromine atoms on one side of the molecule, which act as chiral centers.
