4-Bromo-3-fluorotoluene (4BF) is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and reacts with oxidizing agents to form bromofluorides. 4BF is used as an industrial chemical and can be found in the filtration of gases and liquids, as well as high temperatures. The optimum temperature for the reaction with potassium permanganate is 140°C, while the reaction time ranges from 1 to 2 hours. The preparation process includes reacting 4BF with diazo, which generates 4-bromo-3-nitroaniline (4BA), which can then be reduced to 4BF.
