Description

3-Bromo-a-methylbenzyl alcohol is a potent inhibitor of aldehyde dehydrogenase, which is an enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of aldehydes. It has been shown to be active against corynebacterium with a KI of 1.8 mM and ferrocene with a KI of 2.2 mM. 3-Bromo-a-methylbenzyl alcohol can be used to inhibit the production of formate from glucose by fermenting bacteria, such as C. glutamicum, in order to make them more recyclable and reusable. The product is also useful for the synthesis of chiral ligands for use in asymmetric catalysis and can be used as an oxidant in organic synthesis reactions.
