Benzoyloxyacetonitrile is a reactive compound that modulates the reaction selectivity. It inhibits NS3 protease, which is an enzyme that cleaves viral polyprotein precursors into mature viral proteins. Benzoyloxyacetonitrile has been shown to be active against viruses such as hepatitis and HIV-1. Benzoyloxyacetonitrile is synthesized by reacting benzoyl chloride with acetonitrile in the presence of a base and a solvent. The product can be used as an intermediate for synthesis of other compounds.
