Description

2-Benzoylthiophene is an aromatic hydrocarbon that is used to synthesize other compounds. It has antihistaminic activity, which may be due to its ability to inhibit histamine release from mast cells and basophils. 2-Benzoylthiophene also has conformational properties that allow it to function as a homodimer in kinetic studies, which can be used to study the mechanism of enzyme catalysis. 2-Benzoylthiophene can undergo chloride transfer reactions with diethyl succinate, leading to a molecule with a positive charge on C2. This reaction is catalyzed by protonation of the C2 carbon atom.
