Description:

5-Bromo-2-methylbenzoic acid methyl ester is an antiviral agent that inhibits the replication of RNA viruses. It has been shown to be a potent antiviral agent in vitro and in vivo against a broad range of viruses, including influenza A virus and herpes simplex virus type 1. 5-Bromo-2-methylbenzoic acid methyl ester is active at low micromolar concentrations against both wild type and drug resistant strains of viruses. The antiviral activity appears to be mediated by oxidation reactions, which are dependent on the dose administered.
