(4S,5R)-5-[3,5-Bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-4-methyl-1,3-oxazolidin-2-one is a molecule that has been shown to induce regression of atherosclerotic lesions in the aorta of cholesterol-fed rabbits. This agent belongs to the group of p2 inhibitors and inhibits the cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) by binding to its active site. The crystal structure of this compound has been determined by x-ray diffraction methods. It also binds to the death receptor and activates it through conformational changes. It is an electronegative molecule with a conformation that is optimized for interaction with hydrophobic environments such as cell membranes.
