Product Information
Benzooxazole-2-carbaldehyde is an optical isomer of benzoxazole-2-carboxylic acid. This compound has been shown to shift the optical spectrum from blue to yellow in aqueous solution and postulated to be responsible for bronchodilation. This is due to the chromophore's ability to absorb light in the blue region of the spectrum, which causes it to reemit light in the yellow region. The presence of two asymmetric carbon atoms allows for two different possible conformations, leading to two different optical isomers: 2R-benzooxazole-2-carboxylic acid and 2S-benzooxazole-2-carboxylic acid. These compounds are optically active because they have asymmetric carbons that can rotate around their single bonds. The 2R isomer rotates clockwise, while the 2S rotates counterclockwise.
