4-Bromo-2,6-dimethoxypyrimidine is a synthetic compound that is used to circumvent the deoxyribose sugar in DNA through cyclization. This compound is synthesized by reacting piperidine with 4-bromo-2,6-dimethoxypyrimidine. The resulting product is purified by distillation and then reacted with palladium chloride to form the final product. 4-Bromo-2,6-dimethoxypyrimidine has been found to be an effective antiviral agent against HIV and HSV viruses when applied topically. It has also been shown to have immunomodulatory properties in mice, which may be due to its ability to modify the expression of genes involved in immunity.
