2,2'-(Buta-1,3-diyne-1,4-diyl)dianiline is a monomer that belongs to the cyclic diamines. It has been shown to be an effective ligand for copper(I) and copper(II). The terminal amino group of 2,2'-diaminobuta-1,3-diene reacts with CuCl to form a chelate ring. The presence of chloride ions in the solution increases the stability of the product. This compound has been found to be thermally stable and can withstand high temperatures without decomposing. 2,2'-Diaminobuta-1,3-diene can be prepared by reacting pyrrole with ammonia in methanol. The product is a mixture of conformational isomers. Optimization of this reaction was attempted by changing the solvent and reagent concentrations; however no significant changes were observed.
