Description:
(E)-3-(3,4-Bis(benzyloxy)phenyl)acrylic acid is a perbenzylated derivative of 3,4-dibenzyloxycinnamic acid. It is synthesized by deprotecting the tartrate salt of (E)-3-(3,4-Bis(benzyloxy)phenyl)acrylic acid with potassium hydroxide in methanol. This process removes the benzyl protecting group and yields chicoric acid. Chicoric acid is then debenzylated with sodium hydroxide to yield 3,4-dibenzyloxycinnamic acid.
