Description

2-Butyl-3-methylpyrazine is an antibacterial agent that inhibits the growth of bacteria by interacting with their cell walls. It has been shown to be effective against a number of human pathogens, such as Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi, and Klebsiella pneumoniae. 2-Butyl-3-methylpyrazine also has the ability to inhibit fatty acid biosynthesis and may be used in the treatment of inflammatory disorders. The interaction between 2-butyl-3-methylpyrazine and bacterial cell walls can be detected using chromatographic methods. These interactions are also dependent on the concentration of alkylpyrazines present in the sample. Solid phase microextraction (SPME) was used to extract fatty acids from bacterial cells for identification by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS).
