Product Information
- Bis(trimethylsilylmethyl) sulphide
- (Sulfanediyldimethanediyl)Bis(Trimethylsilane)
Bis(trimethylsilylmethyl) sulfide is a colorless liquid with a pungent odor. It is used in organic synthesis as a reagent and catalyst to cleave epoxides, oxazolidines, or thiiranes. The kinetics of the reaction have been rationalized on the basis of photophysical and hematological properties. Bis(trimethylsilylmethyl) sulfide has been shown to cause damage to organs such as the heart, liver, and kidney when administered in high doses. Exposure to this chemical can also lead to changes in serum biochemistry such as increased levels of creatinine and urea nitrogen, which may be due to its effect on methionine synthase activity.
