Description

5-Bromopyrazolo[1,5-α]pyridine is a benzimidazole derivative that has affinity for the 5-HT2C receptor. It was found to be an antagonist of the 5-HT2C receptor in a profile study using human cloned receptors and rat brain membranes. The compound was not mutagenic in the Ames test and did not show any adverse effects on rat liver function in a safety study. 5-Bromopyrazolo[1,5-α]pyridine also showed selectivity for the 5-HT2C receptor over other serotonin receptors, including the 5-HT2A and 5-HT7 receptors. This compound also has antiobesity effects by activating the AMPK pathway and inhibiting ATP citrate lyase activity.
