Product Information
2-Bromoisonicotinamide is a molecule that inhibits the biosynthesis of mycolic acids. It has been shown to have antimycobacterial activity and is an operational prodrug. The 2-bromoisonicotinamide molecule can be metabolized by monooxygenases to 2-bromopyridine, which binds to DNA repressor and inhibits transcription of mycobacterial genes. 2-Bromoisonicotinamide also has antitubercular activity against Mycobacterium tuberculosis and other mycobacteria. This drug does not work against unactivated mycobacteria because these bacteria do not have an active DNA repressor or an active monooxygenase enzyme. 2-Bromoisonicotinamide also has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, including methicillin resistant strains (MRSA).
