Product Information

Name:
Benzeneheptanoic acid
Description:

Benzeneheptanoic acid is a fatty acid that belongs to the class of hydroxy acids. It is used as a clinical drug for the treatment of acute myeloid leukemia, and has been shown to inhibit the growth of cancer cells in vitro. Benzeneheptanoic acid is synthesized from bromobenzene and octanoic acid in two steps. In one step, benzene is reduced with sodium borohydride and the resulting product reacts with octanoic acid to form benzeneheptanoic acid. The chemical reactions are facilitated by a nitro group on the benzene ring, which acts as an electron-donating agent, making it easier for hydrogen atoms to be removed. This fatty acid has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on both acyl chain elongation and carbonyl group oxidation.
