1-Bromo-8-fluorooctane (1BF) is a brominated derivative of octane that reacts with biological molecules in a stereoselective manner. 1BF has been found to act as a substrate for the enzyme desaturase, catalyzed by cytochrome P450 and leading to the formation of stearic acid. The oxidation of 1BF can also be used to produce sulfoxidation products such as 1-bromo-8-(2,2,2-trifluoroethoxy)octane (1BE). This molecule has been shown to be useful for studying biomolecular chemistry due to its solubility, chiral nature, and stable stereochemistry.
