Bis(4-Fluorobutyl) Ether is an aldehyde that is used as a biochemical insecticide. It is also used in the synthesis of fluoroquinolones and other pharmaceuticals. The toxicity of bis(4-fluorobutyl) ether has been demonstrated in rats, which died after being given doses of 0.5 mL per kg body weight. Toxicological studies have shown that bis(4-fluorobutyl) ether can cause death from respiratory failure, liver necrosis, and kidney damage. This chemical has been found to be carcinogenic in mice and rats, but not in hamsters or dogs. In addition, this substance is highly toxic to aquatic life with an LC50 of 1.19 mg/L for 96 hours (Daphnia magna).
