Synonyms:
  • Dichlorobromofluoromethane
  • Methane, bromodichlorofluoro-
  • R 11B1
Description:

Bromodichlorofluoro-methane (BDCFM) is an aliphatic hydrocarbon that belongs to the trifluoride molecule. It can be introduced by chromatographic separation of a mixture of chlorinated hydrocarbons, and has been detected as an impurity in fluorinated gases. The gas has a mass spectrum that is characteristic of BDCFM, which can be detected by mass spectrometry. The gas is pressurised and reacts with water to form hydrogen fluoride and chloride. BDCFM is also used as a solvent for organic substances such as ethane and carbon tetrachloride.
