Product Information
- Phthalic acid bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl) ester
- Bis(2,2,2-Trifluoroethyl) Benzene-1,2-Dicarboxylate
Bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)phthalate (BTFEP) is a phthalic acid ester that is used as an organic solvent. It is a colorless liquid with a boiling point of 131-134°C. BTFEP has the ability to dissolve many organic solids and is therefore used in analytical chemistry for separating and purifying compounds. BTFEP is not soluble in water but can be dissolved in alkaline solutions. The compound reacts with boron trifluoride to form the volatile fluoroborate ion and phthalic acid. BTFEF is sensitive to n-hexane, diethyl ether, and esters; however it does not react with gas-liquid chromatography (GLC).
BTFEP can be used as a detector for biological samples because it reacts with substances such as phospholipids. Recoveries are usually greater than 90%.
