It is used in the treatment of fungal infections, including onychomycosis and tinea pedis. 4-(1-Bromoethyl)-5-fluoropyrimidine inhibits the synthesis of ergosterol, which is an important component of fungal cell membranes. This compound has a broad spectrum of action and can be used against organisms such as Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Epidermophyton floccosum, and Microsporum canis. 4-(1-Bromoethyl)-5-fluoropyrimidine also inhibits the synthesis of RNA and DNA by inhibiting protein synthesis.
