2,5-Bistrifluoromethyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole is a cyclic compound with an electron deficient structure. It is a crystalline substance that has been shown to have strong binding properties to primary amines and oxadiazoles. This compound was also found to be active in the oxidation of epoxides. The synthesis of this compound required temperatures of 170°C and was achieved by reacting anilines with nitroethane in the presence of sodium hydroxide.
2,5-Bistrifluoromethyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole is used as a catalyst for the oxidation of epoxides to form alcohols or esters.
