Description:

2-Bromo-2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropanoic acid is a chemical reagent that can be used to prepare 2-bromo-2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropanol. This compound is an enantiomerically pure (R)-(+)-2-bromo-2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropanol and can be used as a reagent for the preparation of esters. It has been shown to have a chemical shift of 8.4 ppm in the 1H NMR spectrum and an infrared absorption at 1725 cm−1. The substance reacts with formaldehyde to produce bromomethyl ethers with the elimination of hydrogen bromide. The substance also undergoes esterification reactions with reactive carboxylic acids such as acetic acid or propionic acid to form esters.
