Description:
1-Bromo-4-iodo-2-(trifluoromethyl)-benzene is an activating agent that preferentially activates the methoxy group. It has been shown in experiments to be unsymmetrically reactive with butyllithium and to yield regioselectively the desired bifunctional intermediate. The 1-bromo-4-iodobenzene can be synthesized by reacting 2,6-dichlorobenzene with iodine and lithium bromide in ether.
