Bis(4-fluorophenyl)ether is a reuptake inhibitor of serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. It is used for the treatment of depression. Bis(4-fluorophenyl)ether is structurally related to phenethylamine derivatives such as amphetamine and methamphetamine. Bis(4-fluorophenyl)ether acts by blocking the transporter proteins that remove neurotransmitters from the synaptic cleft. The pharmacophore of this drug is based on a ring structure with an ethyl ester group at the 2-position and two fluorine atoms at the 4-position. This drug has been shown to be more potent than other drugs in its class and has a low potential for abuse because it does not produce stimulant effects or euphoria. The carbon source can affect how readily this drug enters cells and blocks reuptake. The mechanism of action for bis(4-fluorophenyl)ether involves piperazine formation, which leads
