Bromodifluoroacetic acid (BDF) is a halogenated organic compound that contains both a hydroxyl group and a difluoro or trifluoroacetic acid. It is used as an anti-infective agent, which is effective against gram-positive bacteria. BDF reacts with the carbonyl group in the reaction solution to form cross-links, which prevent the bacterial cell wall from developing and dividing. The reaction mechanism of BDF involves hydrogen fluoride as a catalyst.
