Description

Flunarizine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that has been used in the treatment of migraine. It inhibits the COX-1 and COX-2 enzymes, which are responsible for the production of prostaglandins that cause inflammation. Flunarizine has also been shown to have a chemiluminescence effect on blood cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase. Flunarizine has not been approved by the FDA for use in the United States, but is available in some other countries. The drug should not be taken with any other NSAIDs or medications that can increase blood pressure. Flunarizine is used as a diagnostic tool to measure calcium levels in cerebral spinal fluid (CSF).
