It has a high affinity for the cuticle of insects and is used as an insecticide. 3-(4'-Butylphenylthio)-1,1,1-Trifluoropropan-2-One is metabolized by esterases in the hemolymph and tobacco plants. This metabolic process can be inhibited by hormones such as lepidoptera. 3-(4'-Butylphenylthio)-1,1,1-Trifluoropropan-2-One is also catalytic in its properties and has been shown to be effective against hornworms.
